So, I cooked myself dinner last night. Quit laughing, I'm serious. Real live food preparation, not heating up something out of a box from Trader Joe's, which is my usual definition of "cooking." And, before you even ask, nope, my dinner was not the homemade Chex Mix either. I made chicken piccata with pasta. Normally I eat vegetarian, but I do make occasional exceptions for fish and chicken, and I just love the lemon and caper goodness of this particular dish.

A few friends have asked, "What's this Megan? Gardening and cooking? Are you becoming domestic?" Uh, the answer is no again. Don't worry. I am sooooo not going to turn Martha Stewart on you and litter the blog with cake decorating tips and whatnot. Forget it. Chattygirl will always stay my emotional dumping ground for all you lucky readers! I just feel like it's high time that I know how to make a few things and feel at least somewhat competent in the kitchen. The good news is the piccata wasn't bad (although I have ideas for improvements) and I didn't die from eating it. I'm proud. Also, one of the instructions was to flatten the chicken breasts in plastic wrap before cooking. I wasn't sure how to do that, so I clocked them a few times with a hammer. Satisfying. If this is cooking, I'm on board!
