Another Shining Mom Moment

I'm in K Falls visiting the fam for a long weekend. It's been really great having lots of time with my Mom, Rex, and my Aunt Kathy. They've been keeping me busy with outings to movies, shopping, walks around town, eating at lots of yummy places, etc. I've also had lots of time to read (Nick Hornby's A Long Way Down is excellent), write, and catch up with friends on the phone. My aunt took me to a bar yesterday with an awesome bartender who makes the best lemon drops. Three lemon drops later, we ended up at the Pelican Theater to see (dear god) Wild Hogs, which is pretty funny if you're drunk.

My aunt's driving cracks me up. As we pulled in to the theater parking lot in her VW Bug, she asked, "Where should we park?" I responded with, "How about somewhere close?" She pulls into a spot that's pretty much as far away from the door as you can get and comes back with, "How about here? I'm just thinking of you and your heart with this little walk, my dear." Uh huh. She also came to a near stop on a local highway yesterday after turning the wrong direction. I asked, "Why are we stopping in the middle of the road?" She said, "I was thinking about making a u-turn." I looked at the steady stream of on-coming traffic and replied, "Um, I'm not really seeing it." Her, "OK! Fine!" and speeds off. Entertaining moments.

While playing some stick with my mom this afternoon--love my parents' pool room and the practice I get while here, even if I never seem to get any better--I mentioned feeling a bit low today and made a joke about bringing on the anti-depressants.

Her matter of fact response (joking back, she assures me): "I don't know, Megan. It's not like you're depressed for no reason. You're depressed because you have nothing to live for. "

Thank you, Mother! Strangely enough that cheered me up greatly, and I laughed and laughed, dancing around her saying how I couldn't wait to post that one to the blog. She chased me around the living room yelling, "No! No! That wasn't my best joke! Keep that between us! Everyone will think I'm a terrible mother!" Har har.

I heart my family and our all honesty policy.
