I love Band of Horses (or horsies, as I like to say)! The show tonight was really great. Although, I think the best part was the drive to and from the club. Em popped in one of her AC/DC tapes and decided that we were going to do "literal choreography," when we could understand the lyrics, to the songs. Hilarious car dancing! She was cracking me up ("Yes, I'm let loose from the noose..." I'm sure you can imagine). I just don't understand how people can do that screechy/screaming singing business, though. Can you imagine being on tour and having to scream out the lyrics every single night? I feel like you'd have to constantly spray your throat with Chloraseptic or something. I do a pretty mean System of a Down impression, and that hurts after about one minute.

Em and I spent this afternoon hanging out in Ballard. It was nice in spite of the constant downpour. We grabbed a coffee at Verite, browsed in the shops, and had a delicious dinner at an Italian restaurant. I ended up buying the new Sparklehorse CD in Sonic Boom. I'd only heard the "Don't Take My Sunshine Away" song, which kind of bugged at first because it sounds like the guy is singing while plugging his nose. But, it grew on me, primarily because it reminds me of Zozo. Not only is he my little sunshine (I just adore him in a huge, heart-swelling way), but he has a thing about pinching his nose while babbling in baby speak. During my last visit to Maui, we were all out in Lahaina, and I carried Trav into the Vladimir Kush gallery with me. While we were admiring the art, he suddenly grabbed his nose and started going "Da, da, da, da, da!" He then leaned over to grab my nose so I could say something while sounding all stuffy. I obliged and he grinned and laughed. Repeat, repeat. Babies like to repeat. Seeing him so happy with his silly game made me laugh too, although I don't know how much the salesperson in the gallery appreciated our noisy antics. That was a fun day, so now I feel compelled to bring the CD along with me to Tahoe since I know he will groove to it. Also, I listened to some of the other songs while driving around tonight, and I like them way more than I expected. I love when that happens.

I saw the U.S. vs. John Lennon this weekend too. I thought it was really interesting and well done, so I totally got in to it. Of course I think the Beatles are amazing, and I don't think I've heard a song by them that I don't like yet (still, I'm sure there are lots I haven't heard), but I know almost zero about their story, either as a band or the individual members. The movie made me want to learn more, so I'm thinking I need to check out a biography or two. No doubt there are tons of them out there and trying to pick one will be overwhelming. I'll have to check with my Beatles obsessed friends for recommendations.

I must tell you that I rocked the pinball at the High Dive this weekend. My friend, Rod, was very kind to play what must have felt like endless games of the photo match and pinball with me. I was in a somewhat difficult mood, and he catered to my need for an additional distraction while listening to the bands. He cheerfully kept the quarters (and cocktails!) coming when I demanded them and didn't complain once. He even gave me the maraschino cherries from his drinks, which only a true friend would do because they are so good. Thank you, Rod! Anyway, the pinball machine has a junkyard theme, and not only did I get a free game for my high score, but I also got to enter my initials as the Junk Champion. I'm a Junk Champion now. I'm so proud.
