So, I'm moved (pretty much) into my lovely new apartment. Thanks to all of my friends who showed up last night to make the process go quickly and smoothly. I felt so lucky to have so many people willing to help. In particular, thanks to Em, who took on the U-Haul truck driving responsibilities. I have enough issues backing up and parking a regular car, so it was great to not have to worry about that. She maneuvered like a pro through narrow streets and even managed to back the truck into the tiny driveway at the new place. I was impressed.

I have to say that the highlight of the evening was a little adventure I like to call unintentionally hopping the U-Haul over a median to make an illegal turn into the gas station. It was hilarious. After unloading the truck, we were all hungry and agreed to go to an ale house down the street for dinner and drinks. Em, Steph, and I decided to return the truck first and pick up my car, so the three of us squeezed into the cab and headed off, while everyone else went to get a table. On the way, I remembered that I needed to provide a receipt for gas, even though we'd only driven the truck 4 or 5 miles. We searched for a station that had diesel and found one off of a busy street in Ballard. We were sitting at a red light in a left hand turn lane discussing how we were going to get to the diesel pump (after taking a left you couldn't turn left into the gas station, so we were going to have to go down the road, turn around somewhere, and make our way back). At that point, the road was clear so Em said, "No one is coming. Should I just turn in here?" Steph and I took a quick look and responded, "Yes! Do it!" Emily started to turn, and we heard the sound of, not to mention felt, one tire going over the median. Em paused for a sec in surprise, and Steph and I were like, "What the hell?!?" Em realized what was going on and shouted, "One tire is over; I have to go for it now!"

Oh my God. You should have seen the looks we got as we pulled in to the gas station. People thought we were effing morons, but I couldn't even care. We were laughing so hard. I just couldn't stop. Exhaustion makes a person hysterical, I think. Steph and I got out of the truck to help direct Em to the pump, and I had to sit down on an island until I could stop shaking, which took a good few minutes. Em couldn't even drive the truck until she got her giggles under control.

That was the best $4.94 I ever spent.
