I was in a meeting the other day where the term 'meta comment' was tossed around left and right. When someone had a response to something someone else said--a comment, if you will--they'd say, "I have a meta comment about that." I was all, whaaaaaaaaaaaaat? What you call a meta comment, I call a discussion! While some may claim this is a fairly common term, I asked my friends and family if they've ever heard of this before, and no one (I mean, NO ONE) had. I think it's common only in the nerd factory, but I am the queen nerd, because I've run with it. I've spread the word. I've taken informal polls to find out who says it. I angle to work it into conversations. I stop people in the halls to tell them I have a meta comment. In a meeting last week, Monice leaned over to whisper, "I have a meta comment." I encouraged her to share. I've changed my IM name to Meta Megan. Meta is taking over my life!
Anyway. Had lots of fun today hanging out in Fremont for hair appointment, a little shopping, early dinner with Em, and then meeting up with a group for a friend's bday pub crawl. It was an entertaining evening, yet I once again had an awkward moment when a harmless yet creeper guy insisted on giving me a hug goodbye when Em and I made our exit since, like him, I'm from Minnesota. Sigh. I guess. I've realized I'm not very good at tactfully rebuffing the unwanted attentions (which often involves touching. Remember the ankle incident?) of men who I don't wish anything more than a few minutes of casual conversation, and sometimes that's even questionable. :-) Someday I'll figure it out. Today I decided not to make a scene, so I hugged and ran. Lordy.
I'm very excited, because tomorrow morning I'm going to meet up with old friend Amanda for breakfast! I haven't seen her for probably about 13 years. We were neighbors and friends for many years when my family lived in a cul-de-sac in Arden Hills, MN. We reconnected through Facebook this year, and now she's here for a conference and to visit her boyfriend. It's going to be so good to see her and catch up on each others lives. I'm so happy this opportunity came up.
Em and I watched Eagle vs. Shark, and we both thought it was such a darling and hilarious movie. Another recommendation for you all.
