My horoscope in The Stranger (Free Will Astrology) this week starts with a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson. "People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of their character." The rest is about taking note of how our perceptions of the world shape our reality and the experiences we attract. I thought this was really great and timely (something I've been thinking about a lot lately), not to mention way less puzzling than another horoscope I had a month or two ago, which basically suggested naming your coochie as the goal for the week. I was out to breakfast with friends that morning and, of course, eagerly volunteered to read everyone's horoscope out loud. I learned my lesson. Me and another Aquarius friend, Keith, were like, What the eff?!? I guess.
I shall call her Sylvia.
Another quote I'm really liking, "In the life of the spirit there is no ending that is not a beginning." I'm not sure who it's by, but it's on a sympathy card I'm sending to a family friend who recently lost her mother. At this rate, she may see this post before she actually sees the card. I'm taking some time to plan out exactly what I would like to write in it, since she was the unfortunate recipient of my sometimes Christmas is good and sometimes it sucks card this year. Not the sentiment I want to convey in a sympathy card. I still smack my forehead with the palm of my hand when I think about that one.

Googling indicates the "In the life..." quote is by Henrietta Szold, who appears to have been a 19th and early 20th century Jewish scholar which is quite a thing to have been since she was also a woman.
Hi! I can't remember if we ever met, but my wife, Becky, used to work with your mom at OSLC. We've both been enjoying your writing and the little peeks into your family's life. Plus, you have excellent taste in movies, music, and politics ;-)
Hi Jeff,
Yes, she has excellent taste in movies and music....but politics? Hmmm. She does give me food for thought, and when we come to an impass, we agree to disagree. Nice to see a posting from you. It is a beautiful quote, and the history of it is rather fascinating. Take care. Hey, you too, Megs. Thanks for letting me use your blog to talk with Jeff. The Mom
It's good to see that Other MOM's like to disagree about politics with their children. Mine (my Mom) loves to disagree with me. :)
Hey! Thanks for bashing my politics on MY blog, Mother!
I hear ya, Keith!
:-)
Thanks for looking up that quote, Jeff, since I was too lazy to consult my friend Google. I'll have to read up on Henrietta Szold. She sounds like an interesting woman. Yes, I do remember you and Becky, and I appreciate you taking the time to read my little ramblings.
