Today, a former coworker brought her 8 week old baby in to the office. I'm friendly with this woman and came out of my office to congratulate her and meet the beautiful little infant. As I hovered over the stroller making admiring comments, my friend said to me "If you wash your hands, I'll let you hold her." I thought she was joking about the hand washing business and gave her an amused, yeah right look. She was serious. I was surprised and slightly offended. I mean, it's not like I just sauntered out of the mines or completed an "experiment" with toxic chemicals and said, "Hey, can I hold your kid?" I work in an office and wash my hands on a regular basis, and I didn't see her run off to the bathroom to scrub up before picking up the baby. Whatever! My sis says she knows a mom or two like that, and it drives her crazy with annoyance. I did end up holding the little one, though, and she is so sweet, not to mention much lighter than the Trav ever was.
Lots of random stuff...
In the past couple of weeks, I've seen Thank You for Smoking, Friends with Money, and V for Vendetta. These films are so different from each other, but I like and recommend all of them. If you can believe it, V is the first movie I've seen at the Cinerama. I'm so out of it! Tomorrow I'm going to meet my friend Amy to catch the Celestine Prophecy, which I'm happy to note has received good reviews too. This streak of great movies inspired me to sign up to volunteer at SIFF, and I'm really excited for the festival to start.
The Elbow show a couple of weeks ago was fantastic! Guy Garvey's voice is insane. Em said she didn't believe he was really singing at first, because it sounded so perfect. He is also really funny and entertaining, although a bit full of himself. I had a good time at Mates of State last week too, except I saw my little sister's jerky ex working at the club and struggled with inner conflict. I had the urge to march up and give him the what for in an immature yet satisfying burst of indignation on my sister's behalf, but ultimately I decided it wasn't worth my time, so I shot him an evil look instead. I think he felt the anger vibes zooming his way. I really do.
Bill Gates Goes to College is hilarious. I love when Napoleon Dynamite slaps Bill G. in the middle of a scuffle.
Finally, lots of comforting thoughts to my friend Chris. She is going through a hard time. Her scruffily cute kitty, Ricochet, is in his final days after a long haul with diabetes. She is taking excellent care of him and doing what she can to make him comfortable, but of course it's very painful for her to see her longtime buddy nearing his end. Poor thing. Take care, Ms. Chris.
