Hi, all! I'm backity-back from my fabulous trip to Maui, and I wanted to write a post about it tonight, but my cable service was down until just a bit ago. This led to a horrible altercation with my apartment manager, and I'm still t'oed.

My service wasn't really working when I got home around 7:30 tonight, so I called the cable company to let them know and decided against scheduling a tech visit for the time being, but then it went completely out about an hour later. I called again to update them on the sitch, and they told me other people from the building had reported the same problem too, so they were going to send out an emergency service person as soon as they could. Who knew when that would happen?

Around 9:30 the cable peeps call me to say the service guy is waiting outside the gate and could I please let him in. I went out but didn't know what the deal was, or that they needed access to a locked electrical room on the property, so I knocked on the apartment manager's door (figured he knew that several apartments were having trouble by now) to let him know. Apparently he had been sleeping, and he started screaming at me and the cable guy right when he opened the door. "I can't f-ing believe this! The building isn't burning down! I need to have a f-ing life too! My office hours are 8am-5pm! You shouldn't f-ing be here!" Blah, blah, blah.

Excuse me, but don't apartment managers deal with stuff like this at pretty much all hours? I thought that was the nature of the job. Free rent = Annoyances. I apologized for disturbing him, but that didn't stop the yelling, so I huffed off to my apartment while he was hollering at the cable guy in the electrical room. Geez louise. I felt bad for the cable guy and talked with him before he left. Luckily, he didn't seem fazed by the crazy outburst, but I'm annoyed by the manager's bad behavior and his irrational assumption that I just wanted my cable back on at 9:45pm (not that late!) to watch Scrubs or something like that, when really I have work to do from home tonight.

So, after this truly unpleasant, un-island like interaction, I'm now writing to let you all know that I'm looking forward to reporting on my trip, but it will probably happen tomorrow when I have more energy and am in a better frame of mind.

In the meantime, please check out this page, and read the description, of this amazing photograph I saw at the Peter Lik gallery in Lahaina. It is so incredibly beautiful and eerie. Mols and I got to see the large print in a special room in the gallery, and, when you dim the lights, the image of the form stays illuminated. Also, if you almost completely darken the lights, it looks like the form is dancing. The red of the cave is so brilliant; it's a gorgeous contrast. I loved it. Of course, something this lovely comes with a heavy price tag, so I am saving my nickels and dimes for the Ghost.

More later on my adventures with the whales!
