Well, my day was made this morning when an older woman at work wished me a happy V-Day in the mailroom, and then announced she was wearing underwear with hearts on them! Say what? I hardly ever talk with her, and I most definitely haven't ever given ANY thought to what she wears under her thick sweaters and old slacks. So, I responded with the first thing I could think of by saying, in my book, heart covered undies seemed as good a way as any to celebrate the holiday. But, I mean, really that was not need to know info. Still, it was sort of sweet in a socially awkward way. It made me smile.
Have you all seen The Daily Show bit #2 With a Bullet? Oh my God. Love that show! Jon Stewart is hilarious, and this is perfect material for him. On one hand, I can't believe our vice president shot a guy. On the other, I can totally believe our vice president shot a guy. Is this really happening? Cheney's got a gun!
My birthday dinner at Volterra was so wonderful. Spending time with my fabulous girlfriends made my day very special. I can't think of a better way to celebrate Plus, not only did they treat me to a very nice dinner, but I left with some awesome loot. Thanks so much to Em for remembering the pretty champagne flutes I saw when we went shopping and for choosing a movie I have wanted for ages - Parenthood (I'm watching it now!). It may sound weird, but I have so many good memories of watching that with friends when I was in junior high, and it still makes me laugh. To Elizabeth for picking out all my favorites at See's, knowing the kind of books I like, and, most of all, for getting that every girl needs many pairs of crazy-fun socks to go with her purple shoes! I'm wearing the ones with the purple, black, turquoise, and olive squares today. Too cute! They keep catching my eye, so I'm pretty much always checking out my feet. Amy, thanks for providing me with a perfect excuse to browse East West Bookstore again. I love that place! I feel like something good is waiting for me on the shelves, and the gift certificate will be put to speedy use. Thanks to Lindsay for choosing such a great restaurant. I'm looking forward to my birthday outing of choice with you. Is Paris an option on the drop down menu? :-)
My friends at work took me out for a great lunch (calories don't count on your birthday, right?), and I DID NOT get out of being serenaded the birthday song. In fact, my traitorous friend, Dave, is the one who started it and the whole restaurant joined in. Grrr. I ended up smiling/giggling in embarrassment and hiding behind my hands through the ordeal. I couldn't get up the nerve to heckle or pull out my checkbook.
Now that 29 is here, what should I do in my last year in my 20's that may seem immature or stupid once I hit 30? I've been asking my friends for suggestions, and so far I'm not too impressed with the responses. At lunch yesterday, one friend told me a story about someone she knows who whipped off her wedding dress and jumped into Lake Washington after getting married. This led to a lot of questions (mostly on the part of the men) about what exactly the woman was wearing when she hopped into the lake. When it came out there was very little coverage, the guys were quick to ask for an invite if I decided to add that one to my list. Sigh. I'm thinking no.
Seriously, though. If you have ideas, please comment or send them my way. I have a few hundred days to fill. Ha!
