Today is Megan day. I'm hanging out at home reading, writing, drinking coffee, doing a little Dance, Dance, watching movies (Just put in The Way We Were, which I love and will no doubt lead to a cry fest. Robert Redford - hubba! Can also identify with Katie, the early years, as hair stylist at student academy down the street gave me good cut yesterday but then proceeded to style in to fuzzy puffball. She asked, "What do you think?" I responded in horror, "Well, this isn't how I would style it," while really wanting to say, "Would YOU want to leave HERE looking like THIS?" Left her a big tip, of course, and went home to fix.), petting Kitty, paying bills, doing stuff around the house I never manage to get to, procrastinating on all the other stuff I don't feel like doing, thinking about all the holiday gifts I still need to buy. Total gifts purchased: 1.5. Number left: I don't even want to talk about it.
Friday night, I got to fulfill a longtime dream. At my department's annual holiday party, the faculty and students put on little skits as part of the festivities. This year, the staff finally got it together and wrote and performed the first ever staff skit. I had a big role, which normally isn't my thing. Public speaking causes me lots of anxiety, but I used to like to act, so I figured why not do something that sounded really low key and fun. Beforehand, we did a sound check to see if the microphones were loud enough, and I took my moment to say something into it that I've always wanted to say, "Sibilance...sibilance..." ala Tom Hanks as a roadie on SNL. The oldies, like me, in the room got it and laughed, and I felt great satisfaction that the opportunity had finally presented itself. I have a new love for the microphone!
