This is going to be slow typing...

and probably a very short message, as I am using a european keyboard and don't quite get how it works. My hour will run out before I finish the first paragraph. The letters and symbols are in different places!

Life is good here. I have to say I've fallen a little bit in love with Paris. Lindsay and I just left the Notre Dame, and I found that an incredibly powerful experience. Plus, I am now addicted to chocolate croissants. Yummy! (she typed at the rate of 5 words per minute). Oh yeah, and I'm starting to find my way around a bit easier and better understand the layout of the city. Not that Lindsay and I haven't had our fair share of stopping at a corner to pull out a map moments.

Yesterday, we went to Versailles with Rachel (CSE grad student). The palace itself was very overwhelming, but the smaller palaces and gardens were gorgeous. I could not believe how huge and opulent it is. Everything in total excess. How did people live like that? Plus, the single hallways went right through the bedrooms. Lucky for the curtains around the beds. Otherwise, the royal family and visitors would have to sleep on display for servants and other guests passing right on through. It's hard to imagine how anyone got a good nights rest in that place. Our trip lasted about 6 hours, and we were there for the afternoon fountain show. I absolutely loved that. In fact, I'm well on my way to becoming one of those camera crazy, film everything in sight, tourists. I have tons of fountain pictures for everyone to look forward to. Heh.

I know I'll definitely need to return someday. I'm seeing so much, but I haven't had the chance to just hang out, talk with people, and experience everyday life. I think that requires a longer stay, and I wouldn't trade seeing all of these sites and ares of the city on my first visit. There is so much, and I am trying so hard to take it all in.

This is, by far, the least expensive internet cafe we've found at 3 euros an hour (Lindsay is sending you the address, Fred).

More later! Although my speed has bumped up to about 7 words per minute, I can't handle this snail pace.

Megs,

I love your writing, even if it is at a snail's pace. Your descriptions are great - everything sounds so interesting. I am so thrilled you are having this experience - The Mom
