I don't know if other women out there have this problem, but I'm starting to feel like finding and keeping a good hair stylist is as difficult as meeting the right guy to date. It's a roller coaster ride, peeps. I mean, just when you start to feel a real connection with someone--there's consistency and reliability, you feel understood and more beautiful after being with this person, and you're all cozy and secure in the relationship--you call to make an appointment only to be told that your new love has moved...to Hawaii. Blindsided, you've been dumped without even a farewell note scribbled on a post-it. Hmph. You thought things were going so well, and now it's back to square one. I go through this time and time again! A few have just upped and moved without a word. One had a baby and decided to become a full-time mom. Another developed an allergy to the coloring products and had to choose another career. When will I find the One?!?!?
Luckily, this time I had a recommendation from a friend for another stylist who seems very promising. She knows her stuff, and I left a happy customer. But, I've decided I have to learn to protect myself from crushed hopes and disappointment in the future. I'm starting each new hair relationship with some serious, and thorough, questioning about the long-term potential for "us."
"So, uh, how long have you been with this salon? Oh yeah, do you like it here? Sure, sure, that's good to hear. Ever had an allergic reaction to products? No? Fabulous! I see you're wearing a wedding ring. Hope to hear the pitter-patter of little feet anytime soon? Haha, I know what you mean about other people's kids being enough for you for now. It's good to wait until you're ready. Take time for you. Are you from Seattle? That's great! Ever think about moving? Uh huh, uh huh. I think this is the best place to live, too. Why all these questions? Well, I'm gonna be straightforward with you here and tell you that I've been hurt and disappointed by stylists in the past. They've really done a number on my trust, and now I'm looking for long-term commitment. I want to make sure we're a good match from the get go. So, if you have plans to move to Zimbabwe or something, just tell me now..."
Yep. Blahbitty blah.
And I wonder why they stop returning my calls.
I know what you mean...except not only did I lose my stylist, the salon closed too! Bah!
